Would you like to set up a tropical oasis in your living room or invigorate a corner in your patio? The Kentia palm (Howea forsteriana) is a popular choice among interior designers because it grows well in containers. The elegant palm tree develops very well indoors as it is extremely durable and slow-growing. The Kentia palm originates from Lord Howe Island (off the eastern coast of Australia), where it can reach an impressive height of 60 meters. For palm trees containerized inside, the height can drop anywhere between 5 to 12 feet. Kentias have upright slender stems and long bulge, pinnate dark green leaves (also known as fronds).
Kentia palm needs less irrigation, no fertilization
General instructions for care
Like other indoor plants, the Kentia Palm Tree requires care – the right irrigation and lighting for a long life. Luckily, because the Kentia palm is so forgiving that it tolerates even low light and low humidity conditions, but also dust, heat and general neglect. Plant your Kentia in a fast draining potting mix, preferably on the sandy side. Find an area in your house that receives indirect light through the window; it does not necessarily have to be an extremely lighter spot. Only water Kentias when the top inch of the soil starts to dry. Overhydration can cause root rot if the soil mixture does not drain off quickly enough.
Kentia palm may live at temperatures above 20 ° C

Kentia palm – care against pests and other issues
Plant diseases are rarely a problem with palm trees growing indoors. Underwater and over-watering such as insects and mites are, as a rule, the main themes of these plants. There are a few small insects that attack the palm tree: mealybugs and mites. The neem oil can be used to discourage such pests from feeding the Kentia palm.

The neem oil is pressed from the fruits and seeds of Neem (Azadirachta indica), an evergreen tree native to India. The Kentia fronds should be healthy and dark green. Excessive fertilization can cause the tips of the lower leaves to turn brown and die. The discoloration of the leaves can also be caused by dry air and / or lack of water.
Kentia palm can take up to 2 meters
