Build the washbasin yourself – practical tips

If you want to build a washbasin yourself, you must know that the task is difficult and time-consuming. The effort is definitely worth it and you will find satisfaction in the work, because you have the opportunity to do something useful yourself. In addition, a homemade vanity with its original look can quickly become an eye-catcher in the interior of the bathroom or the kitchen. The following instructions describe in detail the construction of a washbasin. Follow the steps to get a nice result!
Necessary tools and materials

If you want to build a washstand yourself, you need many tools and materials. The power tools you need are:
- jigsaw
- Cordless Screwdriver
- Random Orbit Sander
- Fine Spray
- drilling machine
- sinker
- abrasive paper
- eraser
- Pencil and folding rule
And all the necessary materials from which the washbasin is made are: large glued-wood board, medium-density fiberboard, squared timber, countersunk screws, chair angle or bar handle and wood varnish. Of course you can find everything at the hardware store as well as professional advice that can help you.
Step 1: Join middle side and upper bottoms
If you have already got everything you need, we will start building the washbasin. First, you should connect the two upper floors and the middle side together. To do this, place the three parts in the shape of a double-T and mark the back edges with pencil to later know which part goes where. Then find the center cross-line of the two floors – on it the holes for the screwing of the middle side lie. Then drill two holes in each floor and use the cordless screwdriver to attach the construction.
Step 2: Connect the body parts

Then you should connect the body parts together. Put the third floor and the double-T on their visible edges. Use the pencil to mark their position and then draw their outlines on both sides of all three floors. Drill three holes in the middle of the outline so that the floors can be screwed into the sides. For this purpose you need the cordless screwdriver again. To bolt the back wall, use the same principle: position it as you want to mount it and draw the outlines of the bottom and middle floor. Drill five holes in the middle of the outline and mount with countersunk screws.
Step 3: Mount the cover plate
The next step is to mount the cover plate – it is screwed from below through the top floor. In the rear area you should fasten the plate to the sides with chair angles. The washbasin still needs a shutter to cover the drainage installation of the basin. It is attached flush to the leading edges as well with angles. To do this, lay the entire structure on its back: the distance between the panel and the outside edge of the right side and between the bottom edge of the panel and the panel should be 5 mm. Finally, cut the opening for the washbasin into the cover plate.
Step 4: Connect the drawer parts

What’s left is to connect the drawer parts with screws. The use of a drilling template is highly recommended in order to correctly position the holes. Align the drawer parts with the top side down. Then drill two holes for the screws in the sides of the front and back sections. Finally, drill two small holes in the front of the drawer to assemble a handle. The drawer is already finished!
Step 5: Final finishing work
Finally, you should sand the wooden surfaces, apply stains with the fine spray system and finally varnish them clear. Finished! It is not obligatory that you build exactly one vanity.
