Indirect lighting is enjoying increasing popularity today because it creates spectacular lighting effects that can visually enhance any room – the light radiates laterally, upwards or downwards without a luminous element being visible. In the past, indirect lighting mainly used neon tubes. They are particularly good – depending on their support, shape and properties, for narrow light installations. In addition, their light is strong enough, which is important because the cladding, of course, takes away from the luminosity.

In this article you will find a detailed guide and helpful tips on how to build indirect LED lighting yourself. For this purpose, you need the following materials: a LED light tube (best wired – with power plug and cable), a wooden strip – 5cm wide and 1cm in de desired length, two more wooden strips – 10cm wide and 1cm thick, wooden strips for stabilization (as required), screws and fixing clips for the LED light tube. Additionally you need color, wallpaper or foil – depending on your personal wishes.

The first step is to build the lighting box where the LED light tube will later be laid. The length of this box you can determine yourself, but it is of course also dependent on the length of the light tube. The lighting box is built from the three 1cm thick wooden strips – they are assembled in U-shape and screwed together. Depending on the length and position of the box, it may be necessary to additionally stabilize the whole construction. This is the case, for example, when the box is mounted over the entire wall length. As stabilization you can lunge short pieces of a wooden strip at regular intervals between the walls of the box. The other variant is that you glue a continuous wooden strip into one of the inner corners of the lighting box. If the box is short or placed on the ground, no additional stabilization is required. If you want, you can then paper the lighting box, paint or foil so that it does not attract attention.

After you have finished, attach the mounting brackets to the bottom of the lighting box at regular intervals. If short stabilizer bars are glued into the box, you can attach the brackets to it. Then the LED light tube should be laid. He is simply unrolled and pressed in the brackets. The lighting box is then attached to the desired location. What remains is to plug the connector of the light tube into the socket. And done! When you have finished reading the article, you should already be convinced that building indirect lighting yourself is not a difficult task. So, good luck building!
